Having released three EPs since June 2017, Abandonment have had their ups and downs; they lost two valuable members earlier this year, but that didn't seem to stop them in their tracks. They recruited Aaron James from No Witnesses and Sam Hennerley from Suppress and came back ready to be bigger and better than ever. However, with most members having commitments with other bands in the scene, the band announced their break up in mid July with a run of send off shows.
Their last ever show was in their home city, Birmingham, supporting Servitude, alongside other Birmingham bands like Cruelty and Cauldron. I had heard from some attendees that they had travelled especially to see Abandonment, so it was clear that tension was mounting as they waited for them to play their final ever set. Playing for a solid forty minutes, Abandonment had the whole of Subside moving and shouting along from start to finish. Old and new songs alike left bodies hurling and swinging across the room. As of recently they have been playing a cover of 'Unanswered' by Suicide Silence and this was the perfect song to end on. The reaction was second to none. The insane high screams coupled with the fast paced drums and shredding guitars was excecuted perfectly. It definitely impressed all and sent fists flailing for the last time .
After their impressive performance, I heard many congratulate them on their last few years; many spoke about their sadness that it was their last set, but ultimately, Abandonment played the best possible last show that they could. Although we're sorry to see them go, we're all excited to see what each member does next.
