On first glance of the thumbnail for this video, anyone would be forgiven for thinking this is a fun, light hearted, sun tinged indie band. But of course, we know that Clench Your Fist are the polar opposite to that; they are a beatdown band from Belgium brimming with dirty riffs and raspy, disgusting vocals- all of our favourite things in a beatdown band, right?
'Look at me' is a song taken from their new album, 'Repulsive Indulgence', due to be released in just a few days time on 18th August. First, I'll start by discussing the bizarre video because I can't deny it's what caught my attention first! The juxtaposition between the summertime fun visuals: the colourful swim shorts, slip and slide antics with dogs and half naked bodies and song itself is wild- I don't think this is something I have seen much of from a beatdown band before and it's actually refreshing to see something other than the 'tough guy' persona from a band like this. All I could think of when watching this is that it's reminiscent of those odd Rammstein videos that used to be on Kerrang! all the time back in the day- this video doesn't leave me feeling weirdly haunted though.
However, the song itself is laden with aggresive lyrics, harshly fierce vocals and a collection of mosh parts which I can only hope for more of in their new album. The resentful and indignant lyrics are also sure to go down a treat at their future shows as I can already invisage the carnage that is bound to occur.
I will admit, that I've never really given Clench Your Fist the time of day as I didn't think that they were my cup of tea, but after watching this video and listening to this song I will definitely be blasting their tunes more often and am excited to see what 'Repulsive Indulgence' has to offer in the coming days. 'Look at me' is a solid song and leaves no room for improvement as it is effortless in its approach to beatdown- I am certainly impressed!
