REVIEW: 'No one here gets out alive' by Roseblood

Roseblood are probably a band that you haven't yet heard of, so I feel great to be able to introduce you. Originating for New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Roseblood are a monstrous metal core band with similar sounds to the massively popular Code Orange. 'No one here gets out alive' is the second release for the band after their first EP titled 'dclxvi.' that was released back in September 2017 which devoted itself to the same old school Metalcore sounds. Even just by looking at the album cover you get a sense of what you're about to subject your ears to. It's blood thirsty, tumultuous and neurotic- all favourable qualities in a metalcore release!

The album opens with eerie sounds of speech which sounds as though the devil himself is perched on your shoulder whispering into your ears. It's spooky, ominous and sets the tone for whats about come and wastes no time giving it beans with the slow, trudging beatdowns and two step beats. The album name was right- listening to this I literally don't feel like I will get out alive. There's something in their sound which weeps a gothic undertone. Whilst I'm listening, I can't help but paint a picture in my mind of a chilling creature crawling up from a vile abyss seeking revenge, like in a horror movie of some sort. (It's an odd thought but if you have a listen I hope you know what I mean)

The vocals are harsh, coarse and shrill, along with the snare drum which noticeably packs a punch in the background. The softer style that lingers in the beginning of the title track 'No one here gets out alive' is welcomed after the chaotic sounds we have just been graced with. Whilst listening, it serves as a perfect intermission, but before I even have time to digest what i've heard, it's over. Just as I start warming to it, it just ends. Although I am a fan of releases that are short, to the point, I feel as though this ended prematurely and never truly developed. There was a lot to be desired. I almost feel teased.

As a whole, I liked what I heard. It's dark, atmospheric nature is something I am really fond of but I just wanted more. I wanted more stealthy beatdowns and swinging two step beats. I wanted more devilish voices in my ear. I got all of those things, but fifteen minutes just didn't feel long enough, so I hope that Roseblood will release something soon in order to satisfy my cravings.
